Christmas is...

Christmas celebrates the birth and coming into the world of God’s son, Jesus Christ.

Here is why this is Good News (or “Gospel”)…

The Bible tells us that Jesus lived a perfect and sinless life.  Even so, he was executed on a cross (“crucified”).  But this wasn’t for any crime that he did.  It was for our sin.

Jesus did not deserve the punishment that he suffered for us.  So God raised Jesus from the dead (“resurrected”).

Because Jesus suffered for our sins and was raised from the dead, we can be saved from the punishment (“condemnation”) that our sins deserve.

That is, if we would believe, and agree with God against our sinful ways (a change of mind known as “repentance”).

We receive what Jesus did for us as a gift.  A gift that we could never earn.

If we accept this gift, we are reconciled to God and receive forgiveness for our sins.  This begins a new work of God in our lives, adopting us as his children.  The relationship of love that exists between the Father and Son is shared with us, as God transforms us and nurtures us.

The Bible says…

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom. 6:23)

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God… (1 Pet. 3:18)

...just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. (Rom. 6:4)

...if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Rom. 10:9)
